Recursive tree structure — This time with video!

Working with last weeks toy. Three steps forward with this version:

  1. It grows. Branches aren't grown 1 unit at a time. Rather, you watch them develop from stubs to full-length branches.
  2. Branches grow on an quadratic scale, not linear. When you watch the generations of branches grow, this becomes clear.
  3. Parent-branches keep growing after child-branches are spawned.

And two steps back:

  1. Branches grow in pairs, but I want them to grow at different paces. This was the model with the first version. I couldn't figure out how to perserve this and keep the motion in the animation.
  2. The angle of the branches isn't quite right. Sometimes, they grow right back into the ground.

Over all, it looks a whole lot more organic than my initial model. Still doesn't capture that tree skeleton look I have in my head. This week's entry also gives me a chance to upload my first Interweb Movie-Video. I'm happy to say that Vimeo is a real pleasure to use. I expect to use it more to feature future projects.

Anyone else catch that new ABC spot where the background design is all tree-skeletons? Look who's ahead of the curve!
