Wildwood

1 October 07

I took these in the beginning of September, but with getting adjusted to the Mac, wasn't able to post them in time. Upon the month review, they deserved to be put up. Julie invites and the boys show up.

August Come and Gone

Virgin Festival Day Two

10 August 07

Shaved the beard into a stache/patch combo (spatch? for SP?) that morning. Kick off the day with a killer set by Girl Talk. That white boy knows how to mix. Matisyahu then kicked it up a notch. He's incredible live. The real deal. A festival is not the best place for Explosions in the Sky, but they did alright. Bad Brains was legendary . . . . I guess. Infected Mushroom played one song the entire set, and I can't complain. Wu Tang was seriously nothing to get excited about. Such a let down. People really like Interpol, but its the second time I've seen them and I still have my shoulders shrugged. And the Pumpkins closed it. The whole reason why I went in the first place. And it was worth it. No energy left in my legs, but being up there during United States doing the WOOs on that super-heavy part, you can't put a price on that. Actually, you can. $200 + one weekend gone.

Virgin Festival: frame by frame

10 August 07

Some lovely art installations. Aerial Sculpture by Tim Scofield. Here's some of his work on YouTube. Can't find info on the fire machine, but it was incredible. They configured it so it visualized the main stage act. When Sting held a high note it would go off like crazy. I know I couldn't have been the only one thinking "this cannot be safe."

Virgin Festival Day One

8 August 07

DCist said it best, Richard Branson puts on one hell of a festival. No ridiculous lines, plenty of good (relatively) cheap food, plenty of port-o-potties, and loads and loads of tents, events, and spectacles to keep everyone entertained. And that doesn't even touch upon the music. Which was great. Festivals are the perfect venue to do for check-off lists. Finally saw Bad Brains and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - check! Day one review: Cheap Trick still puts on a great show. Rave tent is pretty fun, good palette cleaner between acts, Booka Shade fits the bill. Incubus is good, but never did it for me. Peter Bjorn and John dissapoint. Two of the summer's best tracks and as one fellow concert goer said "Booooooring." LCD Soundsystem stole the show. Totally worth Missing Beastie Boys. Beastie Boys are a blast, everyone else says the show was theirs, but they didn't see LCD Soundsystem. TV on the Radio - I can finally validate my hipster license. Energetic, but those guitars need another sound other than RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE. The Police end things, and they're great, but oh-my-god I can't stand on my two feet for another second, let's go home.

Pineapple Party II

29 July 07

For all my JMU 06 colleagues, the first Pineapple Party marked the beginning of the next stage of our lives after college. It's scary that a year has past and the next one has come. I wasn't nearly as snap-happy I was last year. But then again, it's tough to take pics when your other hand is holding a pineapple filled with beer. Thank you Ladies of the Quantico - Regan, Steph, Jaqui, and Kristi. Sorry I had to cut out early!

Fenwick Island

23 July 07

Buddy Ben has one of those gigs cube monkeys like myself cannot believe they exist. Lifeguard at Fenwick Island. He lives in a house with 5 other guards. The dog runs around the yard, fields of corn surrounds him. Ben took off Saturday to show Doyle and me a good time and he did not disappoint. Our brave leader is still at the top of his game. I can't think of a two hour span where I wasn't on the beach or I didn't have a beer in my hand. Most of the time we were doing both.

Ocean City Light Show

23 July 07

Night one of my escape to the Atlantic. Ben invited. Doyle arrived. Get out my car, into theirs and hit it. Shoulda seen my Footloose break, coulda snapped a brother in two with those moves. Sorry you couldn't be there John and Mike.

Smashing Pumpkins at the 9:30 Club

12 July 07

Last time I saw the Pumpkins, I thought it would have been the last. I was in the 10th grade and it was actually my first concert. Seven years here we are. What a show, all the hits, some of the new ones.

Reston Zoo

8 July 07

With Em in town, we head to the Reston Zoo only a couple miles down Route 7. I haven't been in a petting zoo for more than a decade. Not a bad spot to check out if you've got a free afternoon.
