Mixing it up with the TXP backend interface

Textpattern Admin Themes

UPDATE 26 Feb 09: New and updated themes released. 4.0.8 compatible. dds_admin_style plugin for easy admin theme switching. All available at txpadminthemes.desandro.com

These 4.0.6 themes will remain here for posterity’s sake.

UPDATE 6 Nov 08: Hello Smashing Magazine readers! Thank you for stopping by. In case you’re interesting in more Textpattern Admin Themes, I’d advise you to check back in a couple weeks. I’m currently developing several more themes, along with a plugin that will allow you to easily switch between them.

UPDATE 25 Apr 08: Added Emporclo themes

UPDATE 12 Feb 08: Updated all themes so they are now compatible with 4.0.6. Please note that the new CSS files require the updated image files. Added Small Wheat and Small Marine.

After We Love TXP pointed me to John Hicks’ custom Textpattern admin interface , I discovered that giving TXP UI a make-over was fairly easy. With the 4.0.6 release, you can get it looking pretty good with a few bits of CSS.

These themes only add a couple images and tweak the CSS. No PHP hacking. If and when you decide to revert to the original theme, just replace the textpattern.css file. The themes only change three elements: the navigation tabs, the link colors, and the publish buttons. This means it’s easy for you to tweak and build upon for your own purposes.

To install these themes, download the zip and upload the contents the appropriate folders. textpattern.css goes under /textpattern/ and the images go under /textpattern/txp_img/. These files are compatible with Textpattern version 4.0.6 (and 4.0.5 I imagine, but I haven’t tested it). Cross-broswer consistency is fairly good, although Small Wheat and Small Marine tabs use transparent PNG’s (both these thems will work just fine in IE6, but the corners won’t be as pretty).

As others have , You’re free to include any of these themes for client installs. If you find any browser compatibility issues, please lease a comment .

Download: Emporclo Warm

emporclo warm CSS Rounded corners. Only one image used. More details and screenshots from the Emporclo themes here

Download: Emporclo Cool

Download: Small Wheat

small wheat Rounded corners and a simple gradient background. This theme was develop after taking a look at Jon Hick’s theme and wanting it for myself. And it holds true to the TXP beige/red color scheme.

Download: Small Marine

small marine Same as Small Wheat, only with a bluish color scheme. This might have been my favorite except I like keeping my TXP as TXP as possible. Blue is for the millions of Wordpress lemmings. just kidding Works well in corporate settings.

Download Joy Drop

joy drop Oooh drop shadows. I like it since it matches the pre-existing theme pretty well.

Download: Sea Gloss

sea gloss So maybe the glossy bar is a bit trendy. But dull green over orange does give it a bit of class, right? Publish/Save buttons are styled, matching green links.

Download: Orange Arrow

orange arrow I still miss the orange bar at the top, so this one stays true to the original.

just wanted to say thank you for your admin themes! there seems to be a lot of them that go under the radar of most txp users.

Nice work! Stuart over at Textgarden has created a new section for Admin themes – perhaps your work could be posted there so more TXP users could get to know your themes?

BTW? Just read this:

Niiiiiice.

Your themes offer so much. Really.
Thank you very much.

Hoping for an update for 4.0.7, too. But I hate saying
that because now I look greedy. Poo.

Okay,

@Father Luke – Yes, I do plan on updating all of these to be 4.0.7 compatible. There are some other issues with these that I’ve since discovered after releasing them. Thank you for taking interest!
