365 Project: 1 year later

With the picture posted yesterday, I have completed the 365 project. One picture, every day for an entire year. Upon initial reflection, I was a bit dissapointed. I originally hoped that this project would inspire me to do more exciting things each day, but due to personal sloth, I instead documented a lot of mundane, monotonous days. There were a couple occassions where I picked up the camera and headed out to find something, but no great adventures were ever spurred. In fact, I didn’t even travel at all. My one vacation saw me sprawled on the couch as opposed to hoping on a plane.
Most shots, in of themselves, are relatively meaningless: the front yard, the stuff I left on my desk, a side of a building. Put them in the larger context – one after another, and the pictures are worthwhile. This project created a lot of mediocre photography, but it also created the best zeitgeist I could have hoped for. Just take a look at the thumbnail calendar. There’s something comforting about looking at each picture, one after another. The days are linked together. Each day has its own symbol.
Of course, I regret that I missed 18 days in February and March. I left my camera at a bar. I figured if I missed one day, I might as well miss a bunch. It was the dead of winter and there was nothing worth shooting. At least that’s the way I felt. I was growing tired of the project, and the mishap gave me an excuse to stop it for a little while. There’s also two, maybe three pictures, where I missed the 24 hour deadline to take the shot. Aside from those 21 days, the other 344 were taken on its respective day.
New category pages: color, family, friends, fruit, self-portrait and shows with more coming soon
Looking forward, the plan is to keep the streak going. The process is so simple, I might as well stay the course and see where this takes me.
